Getting started: common questions

Getting started · 10 questions

Where do I start after signing in?

You land on the organisation home. Every project you have access to appears as a tile, and the organisation-wide tools sit alongside them: HRMS, Master Records, Central payment, Central store and Central Reports. Tap a project tile to open it.

What is the difference between the organisation home and Project Home?

The organisation home covers your whole company — the list of projects, and the tools that work across all of them. Project Home is the hub for a single project, and every module for that project sits on that one screen. As a rule, anything shared between projects lives at organisation level.

Where do I add my team, contractors and suppliers?

Under Master Records on the organisation home, not inside a project. That is deliberate: a record added there is available to every project at once, so you set someone up once instead of repeating it per site. Master Records holds a tile for each kind of record — Add Team Members, Add Designation, Add Department, Add Contractors, Add Supplier, Add Equipments, Add Vendor and Add Materials.

Why should I add contractors and suppliers before recording payments?

Because they appear as parties under Payments. Adding them first is what allows amounts payable and receivable to be attributed to the right company, rather than being recorded against nothing.

Do I need to set up wings before I start recording work?

It is worth doing early. Create Wing on Project Home divides the project into the wings or blocks you actually build in, and most other modules let you filter by wing afterwards. Set them up first and those filters are useful from day one; leave it and you are filtering an empty list.

Why should I set designation and department when adding a team member?

Those two fields drive filters you will use later, such as Filled By and Department. Setting them while you are adding the person costs nothing; going back to fill them in across a long team list is tedious.

What can I do from Project Home?

Everything for that project: Dashboard, Create Wing, Project Drawings, Testing Reports, Daily Worksheet, Equipment Usage, Manage Materials, Issues and snags, Reports, Payments, Inquiry, Booking Details, Progress Report, Task, Inspection Request, Gallery and Attendance.

I work with more than one company. How do I move between them?

Use Switch Organization at the top of the organisation home. And once you have more than a few projects, Search Here at the top takes you straight to the one you want instead of scrolling the tiles.

Do I have to install the app to get started?

No. buildcontrol runs in a browser at web.buildcontrol.in. There are also mobile apps — buildcontrol Construction App on Google Play for Android, and on the App Store for iPhone and iPad.

What order should I do all this in?

Add your people and companies in Master Records first, then create the project and its wings, and only then start recording work. Each step depends on the one before it: attendance needs people, payments need parties, and wing filters need wings.
